A pleasant evening

We went on an accidental date night tonight. We saw Men who stare at Goats and then went for South American food at Las Iguanas, a very pleasant resturant that served huge amounts of food and excellent Mojitos. After we went for a stroll along the dockside where we looked at some war monuments and looked out over the sea. Very romantic evening indeed :).

The messiest room in the whole world

We have just arrived back in Liverpool - to the worst most untidy room I have ever seen. Papers and books everywhere - on the bed, on the floor, on a towel by the door. Empty food and drinks boxes. Clothes piled up. Bed unmade. So now Martin cleans as I refuse to be in such a messy room. I will inspect later to make sure it is up to my standards. I will ensure this bachelor suite is made fit for a lady

Liverpool tomorrow

Tomorrow I will go to Liverpool. In my university's frankly misguided decision to give us 2 days off this week (which everyone will use to take an extended weekend), I intend to have a 5 day weekend. Ill use the change of scene to relax and catch up on some light pathology.

I will also get to see Martin duet at karaoke. With Edward - his new best friend :)

Tonight we went out to celebrate the arrival of little Mathilda. And had a few glasses of wine for her - as she is much to young to drink them herself. Congratulations Malin and Jonas. xxx Happy Birthday Mathilda, lots of love from Uncle Martin and (sort-of-auntie) Kiran.

Something I overheard last night

Young asian lad in a hoodie to a police officer
"Officer u cant chuck me out. Im trying to link up with that girl over there. I told her Ive got a lambourgini at home. I said "U wanna come check my lambourgini?"
"Officer do u wanna be part of my crew?"

If I was that officer I would have said "Are u even old enough to drive young man? Are u even old enough to have a license? No I dont want to be part of your crew. Just what is your crew young man?"

Yaaaay little celebration

I got my electric blanket from Argos - yaaaaay no more cold nights! I even got a minor flirt from a (not ugly) cashier there.

Him: "I thought it would be u needing an electric blanket..."
Me: "....."
Him: "Not that Im making generalisations or anything. I mean Im not assuming you need warming up or anything"
Me: "Of course not, I just have a very cold flat and a stingy flatmate"
Him: "You cant get an exchange on it, for hygiene reasons"
Me: "Oh?"
Him: "Y'know? Cant just go a few cold nights, Ill buy an electric blanket and then return it. People get up to all sorts in bed"
Me: "Yes...."

Im looking forward to road testing said blanket and not returning it. Dont know whether to go to Primrose Hill tonight or just to stay in, rest and recover and enjoy the electric blanket. Ive stocked up on chilli chocolate (which is on offer in Sainsburys) and magazines. So bed is very attractive right now.

Minor gripes about the man in my life (Not Martin)

  1. Who needs to be up at 6am when we're only in at 10? No-one has that many things to do.
  2. The reason Im still sick is cos you're too miserly to stick the heating on - I am fucking freezing and have now got an electric blanket.
  3. Why can't u ever clean on a school night - is it something only I am bourgeousie enough to do? I need to study too, not just you. The house does not clean itself.

Too cute to function

I think Im in love. Posh has bought 2 of these 'micropigs' for David for £1400. Me want. They're absolutely adorable. Would anyone even notice if I replaced Martin with one of these?

metrosexuality is a MYTH

I have just cleaned the house. I am sick, ok? SICK? SIIIICK. S-I-C-K. What I do not want to be doing is cleaning. I feel faint and like vomiting. Whilst doing this highly unpleasant task I came to a conclusion. Metrosexuality is a myth. A completely delusional ideal formed by women to make themselves feel better. A way of pigeon holeing man into a niche. If you looked into our kitchen (as of about 2 hours ago) you would know this. No matter how advanced the male specimen happens to be, nor how in touch with his feelings he is, nor how clean he regards himself to be - there are certain places, things etc a man will not go/ do. I learnt this when I came to realise that there a certain jobs Guy has not ever done in our flat. These involve the slightly more disgusting household tasks:
  • He has never cleaned the toilet
  • Or has changed the toilet brick (You know, the thing that you hang in the bowl to deliver freshness with every flush.
  • I dont think he has cleaned the bath or changed the bath towels
  • Cleaned the plughole
  • Emptied the bathroom bin
  • Cleared a backlog of dishes
  • Cleaned out the bin when its been leaking
  • Watered the plants
  • Bleached the sink
  • Cleaned the carpet
  • Cleaned the kitchen floor
  • Sorted the recycling (I dont think he even knows where our local recycling point is)
(picture from http://hydralisk.wordpress.com/2007/10/)
Guy is a lovely individual, great to live with, generally very tidy. Extremely evolutionarily advanced as men go - but these things are beyond him despite him putting across the image of the elusive metrosexual man. This situation would be worse with the non metrosexual man, like Martin or my brother or my father. I dread to think what living with Martin would be like in terms of hygiene and standards. We are polar opposites in terms of what constitutes tidy - I like order, cleanliness and dust free surfaces, he is of the more liberal-couldn't-give-a-shit-its -only-a-few-things-lying-about persuasion.
I can see know why my mum does all the cleaning in her house. Its not that my dad can't or won't. Its just that it won't be up to her standard which is something I now appreciate. I mean if you have to clean it again if its not done right, you may as well do it yourself in the first place.

After staying in Martin's bachelor flats both in Liverpool and Gävle I understand my mum completely. (This DOES NOT mean
Im turning into my mother, just that I know why she cleans so much). Usually when I stay with Martin there is so much crap everywhere that I feel the need to wipe a few surfaces, put some clothes away, maybe get the floor so that I can see the carpet. It gives me a headache to be in such mess. I mean HOW does he manage to have his clothes everywhere? He doesnt even have as many clothes as I do.

Martins view of tidy

My view of tidy

Therefore I can only assume the truly metrosexual man to be a rare creature probably only seen in zoos next to the baboons with bright red arses and chimapanzees grooming each other. As Bill Bailey said "He is a large creature can be seen at dusk, scurrying towards the buffet table..."

Still sick

I write from my freezing cold room in Camden where I am STILL suffering with the flu. :( I have missed lectures, going to the gym and climbing grrrrrr. I should be able to catch up with lectures pretty easily and ill go to the gym 2moro and workout on the bikes/ cross trainer. Climbing on monday/ tuesday hopefully. But I am so damn bored and tired. Feeling a little better but still feeling crappy. I have a lot of plans for the weekend and want to feel better soon.

Friday - Martin here, cinema maybe; see Hannah at Hawkshead
Saturday - Shopping for Malin's baby, Gourmet burger date, Martins suprise? (whatever that may be?) Hawkshead again?
Sunday - Gym/ running, Meet Pindy for coffee/ shopping?
Monday - going climbing at Swiss Cottage (Martin do u want to come with me? Go on itll be fun)

Hate being sick - Im too busy to be sick.

Artsy wall!

When you are unable to do any more reading late at night because of boredom, you set up a collage of nice looking pictures above your bed. Some of these are from Kiran, some come from the National Gallery in London and two of them are actually converted fridge magnets...

Will extend the collage soon! :)
